National Competition on Biodiversity
To educate people, we are holding an interesting “National
Competition on Biodiversity”. Countless students, teachers and
staff members from schools, colleges and universities are
submitting entries on the 50 meter long cloth banner which is
being provided by “Wilderness Pakistan”. All these 50 meter
banners will be stitched together with other entries to make a
15 kilometers long single banner. We encourage participants to
depict local species of Pakistan. They are busy printing:
1) Comments, drawings and sketches of marine, flora and fauna
aspects of life
2) Innovative ideas to how to protect natural environment /
biodiversity
In the first phase entries can be submitted latest by 14th
August, 2010. Some eminent artists and educationists will start
compiling results on World Environment Day, 5th June 2010. Since
its going to be a year long activity all institutions are
invited to submit entries by 6th September 2010. The detail of
prizes is attached herewith.
The United Nations proclaimed 2010 to be the International Year
of Biodiversity, and people all over the world are working to
safeguard this irreplaceable natural wealth and reduce
biodiversity loss. The “Wilderness Pakistan” became the first
partner of the UNEP’s IYB2010 in Pakistan. We also translated
the official IYB slogan in our national language Urdu for the
“Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity,
Canada”. The International Year of Biodiversity is a unique
opportunity to increase understanding of the vital role that
biodiversity plays in sustaining life on Earth. We need to do
more and now is the time to act.
After receiving such inputs from other cities of Pakistan the
banner shall be sent to other countries for exhibition where
more drawings, comments and length shall also be added.
Preparation of such a unique banner of its kind will help
promote the cause of environment protection in Pakistan, both
efficiently and effectively. Besides it will portray a positive
and constructive image of our nation across the world.
The “WILDERNESS PAKISTAN” is a not for profit, non governmental,
volunteer based organization. Since its inception in 1992, we
have been providing young students with a platform for
constructive adventure sports. Indeed, when we go out in the
desserts, plains or mountains we observe matchless colors of
life. There we find opportunities to discover hidden wild-lands,
protect endangered species and enjoy the wonderful echo
biodiversity. To spread the word of goodness, our journey
continues. |
